Matthew 2

I never knew that the Magi went to see King Herod before they saw Jesus. There could not have been very many people on the earth at that time. I think that it is a miracle in itself that Herod wasn't able to locate Jesus. I wonder how long they lived in Egypt?

I thought it was funny how it said that the wise men took a different route home and stayed out of the way from where Herod was. It's weird to think they would be too close and that they couldn't just slide by. In our day and age we can just go one block over and that would be enough to pass by. I would think that they probably traveled with a posse and were well known.

As far as Herod finding Jesus, I think it would be tough. I'm sure that there were plenty of other babies that made it out of Herod's grasp.

When reading about Joseph having to take his family to Egypt, I thought about how hard making that decision would be. It is tough to move to the next town let alone another continent. Can you imagine the amount of faith that Joseph and Mary must have had in God? Mary was pregnant as a virgin! How could you not totally commit to whatever God told you and to trust that he could do anything.

Can you also imagine what it was like raising Jesus as a child? It would be tough to teach and discipline God.
